Barcelona’s Sagrada Família basilica has officially become the world’s tallest church, with its Tower of Jesus Christ reaching a height of 172.5 meters. Construction on the monumental basilica began in 1882 and continues to this day. The completion of the tower was celebrated with a ceremony attended by Pope Leo XIV and King Felipe VI with his wife. The event symbolically marked 100 years since the death of Antoni Gaudí, the famed architect, who was fatally struck by a tram. A drone show was used to create an image of Gaudí, allowing him to “witness” the milestone virtually. Despite ongoing construction, the Sagrada Família now stands as a globally recognized architectural landmark and a significant religious site.
