The Bangladesh Supreme Court’s Appellate Division has suspended the High Court’s earlier granted bail to Shimul Bhuiyan, a suspect in the murder of former Member of Parliament Anwarul Azim Anar. Anar, a politician from the ruling Awami League, was reportedly abducted and murdered in Kolkata, India. Bhuiyan is accused of involvement in the planning and execution of the killing. The stay of bail was issued on Sunday, June 21st, by a chamber judge court led by Justice M. Rezaul Haque. Previously, on June 8th, a High Court bench had granted Bhuiyan interim bail with a rule. The case remains under investigation as authorities continue to pursue those involved in the MP’s death.
