A severe erosion crisis is unfolding in Manniarchar, Islampur Upazila, Jamalpur district, Bangladesh, as the Jamuna River’s water levels rise. Over one hundred homes and hundreds of acres of farmland have already been lost to the river. Schools, mosques, madrassas, and agricultural land are at risk of being swept away. Infrastructure worth 80 million Bangladeshi Taka, including solar panels and a key road, is also threatened by the ongoing erosion. Residents are facing sleepless nights and displacement with no immediate solutions in sight to halt the destruction. Local authorities have yet to implement effective erosion control measures, leaving the community increasingly vulnerable.
