Gulf Arab nations are actively tracking Iranian cells to prevent security threats and espionage. Recent operations have taken place across Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain. In Bahrain, three individuals were sentenced to life imprisonment on July 15 for allegedly working for the Revolutionary Guard. An additional ten people received prison sentences ranging up to five years. However, the motivations behind these specific operations in the kingdom are being questioned. Reports indicate the use of arrests, stripping of nationality, and torture. Consequently, the hunt for foreign agents appears to be evolving into a tool for internal political repression.
