A growing number of races worldwide now incorporate alcohol consumption during running, including wine, beer, and prosecco-themed events. Despite the increasing popularity, there’s a notable lack of scientific research examining the physiological impact of combining alcohol and exercise. Professor Örjan Ekblom, an expert in sports science, states that currently, he can find no studies demonstrating a direct correlation between participating in these events and fatalities. However, the absence of evidence does not equate to evidence of safety, and the potential health effects remain largely unknown. This highlights a need for further investigation into the consequences of running while consuming alcoholic beverages. Ekblom's statement suggests a reliance on anecdotal evidence rather than empirical data in assessing the risks involved.
