A reform of the assessment process in Slovakia, effective September 1, 2025, has fundamentally altered how the state evaluates individuals with health disadvantages requiring assistance. Labor offices are now issuing a single integrated assessment encompassing both medical and social evaluations. This change impacts those reliant on state support. As of January of the following year, the current care allowance, for which the state allocates 703 million euros this year, will be replaced by a new assistance allowance. The reform has already resulted in financial losses for several vulnerable individuals. Concerns are mounting regarding the potential consequences of this shift for those in need of ongoing care and financial aid in Slovakia.
