A recent earthquake in Panama led to approximately 200 cases of gastrointestinal illnesses reported by the Ministry of Health (Minsa). These cases emerged among those affected by the quake. Fortunately, health authorities indicate a decline in reported incidents following sanitation interventions. Minsa continues to monitor health conditions in 54 shelters housing around 3,800 displaced individuals throughout Panama. Vigilance remains high in these shelters to prevent further outbreaks and ensure adequate care for the vulnerable population. Ongoing sanitation efforts aim to control the spread of illness in affected areas. This situation highlights the importance of public health preparedness in disaster zones like Panama.
