Algeria is reassessing its long-held doctrine of non-interference due to increasing instability in the Sahel region. The country recently deployed an air contingent to Niger to assist in suppressing a coup attempt, signaling a change in approach. This move stems from Algeria’s concern over the growing diplomatic and military influence of foreign powers in the region. Consequently, Algeria severed relations with the United Arab Emirates in September. Furthermore, Algeria’s relationship with Morocco is deteriorating due to a dispute over Western Sahara, a conflict impacting the wider Maghreb region, migration patterns, and relations with Europe.
