Hugo, a 17-year-old South American sea lion, died overnight at the Liberec Zoo in the Czech Republic. A post-mortem examination revealed the surprising cause of death: the head of a doll found lodged in his digestive system. Zoo staff had previously retrieved the doll from the animal’s enclosure two days prior. The zoo’s spokesperson, Barbora Tesařová, confirmed the findings in a press release. It’s currently unclear how Hugo ingested the doll’s head, but authorities are investigating the incident. This unusual death highlights the potential dangers of foreign objects within animal enclosures. The zoo is saddened by the loss of the long-time resident.
