A 75-meter-long zeppelin is currently flying over parts of the Netherlands, equipped with advanced sensors to measure air pollution. The airship, launched from Essen, Germany, is conducting measurements over areas including Arnhem, Kootwijk, and Utrecht, with repeated passes over the Veluwe region. Researchers from Wageningen University & Research are collaborating with German colleagues to analyze exhaust gases, particulate matter, and CO2 levels. Flying at a relatively low altitude of 300 meters and at a slow pace, the zeppelin enables detailed data collection. This method allows for a comprehensive assessment of air quality across both the Netherlands and Germany. The research aims to provide valuable insights into pollution levels and contribute to environmental studies.
