Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has imposed sanctions on the creators and companies behind the popular animated series “Masha and the Bear.” The sanctions are part of a broader effort to counter Russian influence and propaganda following the invasion of Ukraine. The cartoon, while widely enjoyed by children internationally, originates from Russia and is seen by Kyiv as contributing to the Russian narrative. These measures include asset freezes and restrictions on doing business in Ukraine. The move signifies Ukraine's continued focus on limiting economic ties with Russia and those who benefit from its media industry. Critics suggest the sanctions target a children’s program unnecessarily, while supporters maintain it’s a justified response to Russian aggression and cultural warfare. The sanctions are valid for 50 years.
