Zanzibar’s President Hussein Ali Mwinyi has refuted reports placing the cost of the Fumba AFCON Sports City at 1.4 trillion shillings. He stated the project’s actual cost is 300 billion shillings and will significantly benefit the region. Mwinyi highlighted the anticipated positive impact on sports tourism, attracting investment, and driving economic growth for Zanzibar. The President made these comments during the inauguration of the Malindi Bus Terminal, alongside the launch of electric public buses and the opening of the Malindi Football Ground. This multi-faceted event underscored the government’s commitment to infrastructure development and modernization. The AFCON Sports City is expected to be a key component of Zanzibar’s developing infrastructure. The project aims to position Zanzibar as a growing hub for sports and tourism in East Africa.
