Two fisherfolk associations from Zambales have formally expressed their support for a peaceful resolution to tensions in the West Philippine Sea. They are aligning themselves with the Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya), a national fishers' group. Specifically, these associations are backing a call to demilitarize the Philippines' exclusive economic zone (EEZ). This position was reaffirmed following a consultation held on Sunday. The move emphasizes a preference for diplomacy over military escalation in contested waters. By advocating for peace, the fishers hope to ensure the safety and sustainability of their livelihoods. This collective stance highlights the growing demand from local maritime workers for non-violent geopolitical strategies.
