An online help chat, Keerpunt, designed for young people involved in or at risk of criminal activity, experienced a significant increase in usage last year. Over 500 young people and their families utilized the service, more than doubling the number of conversations specifically addressing criminal involvement from 89 in 2024 to 210 last year. Many chats do not immediately reveal criminal ties, with some users discontinuing conversations due to caution or distrust. Approximately one-third of the young people accessing the chat are minors. Keerpunt, funded by the Ministry of Justice and Security, provides a safe, anonymous space for youth facing pressure to engage in activities like drug trafficking, money laundering, and handling explosives. The organization reports many young people feel they have nowhere else to turn due to the illegal nature of their situations. Increasingly, concerned parents are also reaching out to Keerpunt for guidance, representing one in ten conversations.
