Wasim Hamidouche, a researcher at AI for Good Lab, discussed the linguistic inequality present in Large Language Models with “Vima”. He highlighted that these models often overlook smaller languages and dialects. Hamidouche spoke specifically about the challenges faced by the Greek language and its regional dialects within Artificial Intelligence. To address this, he introduced Lingua, a program dedicated to incorporating Greek dialects into AI systems. The initiative aims to reduce bias and promote inclusivity in AI technology by recognizing and integrating the diversity of the Greek language across Greece. Lingua strives to ensure that AI benefits all language communities, including those with less widely represented dialects.
