A thriving colony of white storks in Serbia, considered the largest in the country and one of the largest in Europe, continues to expand at an unfinished building site near Novi Sad. This year, observers have counted a remarkable 75 active nests within the colony. The site has become a significant breeding ground for the birds, demonstrating continued population growth. The ongoing construction halt appears to have inadvertently provided a safe and suitable habitat for the storks. Experts are monitoring the colony’s development and the impact of its location adjacent to a major highway. The increasing number of nests signals a positive trend for the species in the region, despite broader environmental challenges. This growth highlights the adaptability of white storks and their ability to thrive in unexpected locations.
