Ten years after the Philippines’ victory in its arbitration case against China concerning the West Philippine Sea, fishermen express concerns the dispute remains unresolved. Leonardo Cuaresma, leader of the New Masinloc Fishermen Association, spearheaded a demonstration in Subic Bay with approximately 250 participants. The event highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by Filipino fishermen accessing traditional fishing grounds. Despite the 2016 ruling, Chinese presence and harassment continue to impede their livelihoods. Cuaresma believes the fight for sovereignty and fishing rights is far from over, emphasizing the need for continued vigilance and action. The demonstration served as a symbolic reminder of the persistent issues in the contested waters, underscoring the case's limited practical impact for those directly affected.
