A Palestinian official has warned that new Israeli settlement construction west of Dura, in the southern West Bank, poses an existential threat to the Palestinian population. Ziyad er-Recub, a member of the Dura Municipality in the Hebron Governorate, stated the “Doran” settlement’s building activities are underway. The expansion is occurring in the occupied West Bank, a territory Palestinians claim for a future state. The official expressed concern over the long-term implications of the settlement for the viability of Palestinian life in the region. This development adds to ongoing tensions surrounding Israeli settlement activity, considered illegal under international law, though Israel disputes this. The construction raises fears of further displacement and fragmentation of Palestinian communities.
