A 60-year-old Welsh man, Christopher Philips, has been sentenced to two years and four months in prison for keeping his deceased mother’s body frozen in a freezer for almost three years. Police discovered the remains in February of this year after a doctor raised concerns when Philips prevented contact with his 89-year-old mother. Philips initially claimed his mother was in London, but officers entered the home and found her body wrapped in a leopard-print blanket with roses and a birthday card signed by him and the family dog. He admitted to his mother's death in March 2023, stating he "didn't want to let her go" and continued to treat her as if she were alive, even talking to her. Philips fraudulently claimed nearly 100,000 euros in benefits and pension payments while concealing her death, aided by the pair’s already reclusive lifestyle. His lawyer stated he spoke of her as if still living.
