An investigation by DismissLab has revealed that voter lists for specific constituencies and the entire country of Bangladesh were being sold online. On May 28th, an account posted in a Facebook group offering voter data for prices ranging from 30 to 40 takas (approximately $0.30 to $0.40 USD). Lists for individual seats were advertised for 30 takas, while the complete national voter list was offered for 40 takas. This data sale raises serious concerns about data security and potential misuse of sensitive voter information. The findings suggest a breach of voter data and its subsequent commercialization on social media platforms. Authorities have not yet commented on the investigation or announced any action regarding the sale. The incident highlights vulnerabilities in the protection of personal data within Bangladesh’s electoral system.
