Vietnam’s Ministry of Health is reviewing and amending regulations regarding health insurance coverage for cancer medications following reports of shortages across several localities. Patients have been forced to purchase necessary drugs out-of-pocket due to the lack of availability under the current national health insurance scheme. The Ministry is focusing on updates to Circular 20/2022, which details the list of medications reimbursed by the Vietnam Social Security (VSS) fund. The aim of the revisions is to better meet treatment demands and ensure the rights of those enrolled in the health insurance program are protected. The review will address gaps in coverage and improve access to essential cancer treatments. This action responds to concerns raised by local authorities regarding patient access to vital medications. The changes are expected to improve the affordability and availability of cancer treatments for Vietnamese citizens.
