A discussion between the Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam and the Chairman of the Vietnam Small and Medium Enterprises Association (VCCI) centered on the difficulties SMEs face in securing capital. Despite comprising 98% of all businesses in Vietnam, SMEs account for only 20% of total outstanding credit across the national economy. This disparity highlights significant obstacles preventing smaller enterprises from obtaining necessary funding from banks. The meeting addressed these barriers to capital access and sought potential solutions. The conversation aimed to understand challenges within the current financial system affecting SMEs’ growth. Improving access to credit for SMEs is seen as crucial for Vietnam’s continued economic development. Further consideration will be given to policies that promote more equitable financial inclusion for these businesses.
