Venezuela continues to lag behind other Latin American nations in securing civil rights for LGBTQ+ individuals, facing a significant legal and judicial deficit. Despite numerous legislative attempts and court rulings spanning over two decades, progress has been consistently blocked by a lack of political will, interference from fundamentalist groups, and deeply ingrained machismo. Bills supporting LGBTQ+ rights remain stalled in the National Assembly, while Supreme Court rulings have languished without implementation. This systemic exclusion perpetuates discrimination and denies the LGBTQ+ community full equality and dignity. The situation was highlighted in a series of reports released in observance of Pride Day. The reports detail ongoing challenges, incremental advancements, and the sustained struggles for recognition and equal treatment within the country. This ongoing failure to act creates a structural debt to the LGBTQ+ population of Venezuela.
