Finnish dairy company Valio announced Wednesday it will gradually move production from its Oulu factory to facilities in Riihimäki, Jyväskylä, and Joensuu. The decision will result in approximately 140 job losses at the Oulu plant. Oulu City Mayor Ari Alatossava expressed disappointment with the news, stating it is not positive for the city or its residents. He indicated he learned of Valio’s decision on the same day as the public announcement. The company has not yet detailed a specific timeline for the phased relocation of production. This closure represents a significant economic blow to the Oulu region. Alatossava’s comments suggest the city was not consulted prior to the decision.
