US-based biotechnology company Colossal Biosciences has announced significant progress in its effort to revive the dodo, known as the *blboun nejapný*. The flightless bird became extinct in the 17th century due to human activity. The company has successfully mapped 95 percent of the dodo’s genome. Utilizing a newly developed artificial intelligence (AI) platform, researchers have also identified genetic changes likely responsible for the bird’s distinct characteristics. Colossal Biosciences aims to recreate the extinct species and return it to its original habitat on the island of Mauritius. This achievement represents a major step forward in de-extinction efforts and the potential restoration of lost biodiversity.
