The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) agreed with the United States on April 5th to accept deported migrants. A first group of 15 individuals arrived in Kinshasa on April 17th as part of this agreement. However, nearly two months later, only one migrant – a Colombian national – remains in the Congolese capital. The situation raises questions about the terms of the agreement between the two countries, specifically whether the DRC received any concessions in return. It is currently unclear if the US will continue to send deported migrants to the DRC under this arrangement. The fate of the other 14 individuals is also unknown. The agreement and its implementation are facing scrutiny regarding transparency and long-term implications.
