A life-size replica of a 14th-century Yuan dynasty artwork at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York has fostered a rare collaboration between the United States and China. The monumental work, depicting the Medicine Buddha and a vast Buddhist assembly, is housed in Gallery 206, dedicated to Chinese Buddhist art. Its impressive scale—over 15 metres wide and 7.5 metres tall—creates an immersive experience for visitors, momentarily transporting them away from the energy of Manhattan. The artwork’s power to captivate has served as a catalyst for increased cultural exchange between the two nations. This collaborative effort highlights the shared appreciation for historical and religious art forms. The original piece dates back to the Yuan dynasty (1279-1368) and remains a significant cultural treasure.
