The US military reported attacking multiple Iranian oil tankers Tuesday, citing retaliation for recent Iranian ballistic missile attacks on a US Navy ship. Iranian state media confirmed two tankers were hit near the southern port city of Jask, close to the Strait of Hormuz, with crews evacuated to shore via lifeboats. Another tanker near the island of Kharg in the Persian Gulf was also reportedly struck, with its crew also safely evacuated. US Central Command (Centcom) stated a total of five oil tankers have been disabled. While Iran launched ballistic missiles in recent days, no damage or casualties were reported on the American side. During a visit to Colombia, Foreign Minister Rubio affirmed that Iran’s attempts to strike US naval vessels will result in the loss of tankers, and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard has called for crews near Kuwait and Bahrain to evacuate their vessels, citing them as potential targets. This follows Saturday’s US claim of disabling three Iranian oil tankers, which the Revolutionary Guard countered by claiming attacks on three American ships in the region.
