A comprehensive drone-based laser scan and photogrammetric survey has been completed of the informal settlement of Baba Alino near Varna, Bulgaria. The survey, conducted with the local branch of a surveying chamber, created a highly accurate 3D model with a precision of 2-3 centimeters. Results indicate that nearly half of the 128 buildings constructed in Baba Alino are not currently registered in the cadastral records. This discrepancy raises concerns about land ownership and legality of construction within the settlement. The detailed mapping aims to provide accurate data for future urban planning and potential regularization efforts. Authorities are now assessing the findings to determine appropriate next steps regarding the unregistered properties. The survey highlights the challenges of managing informal settlements and maintaining accurate land records.
