A United Nations independent investigation has concluded that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, deliberately targeting Palestinian children. The report states approximately 30% of those killed by Israeli armed forces in Gaza since the start of the conflict have been children. This follows a September report by a UN independent commission that also recognized genocide in Gaza, attributing responsibility to Israeli officials including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, leading to an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court. Israel’s delegation in Geneva has dismissed the findings as “slander.” The report details an increase in the deliberate targeting and killing of children, even after a ceasefire agreement began in October 2024, which the commission identifies as a key element in establishing genocidal intent to destroy the Palestinian population. The commission chair stated this is a deliberate act to diminish the future existence of the Palestinian people. The report also notes a sharp increase in violence against Palestinian children in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, including systematic abuses during detention.
