Construction of a major underpass in Ulaanbaatar, intended to alleviate traffic congestion, is currently 50% complete. The project, funded by a concessional loan from the EXIM Bank of China, began in 2024 and includes the construction of a 28-meter tunnel, a 1.48 km road, and pedestrian/bicycle paths. The underpass, located near the Hermes shopping center, will connect Narangiin Zam with the central road network via Dund Gol. Once finished, the 38-meter-long, 12-meter-wide structure is expected to handle approximately 31,000 vehicles daily, improving traffic flow. Work on the geological center laboratory area is yet to begin, though 21 plots of land have been cleared in preparation. The underpass is being built using the Box Jacking method for the railway section.
