Ulaanbaatar’s mayor, B. Purevdagva, has announced plans to revise and continue the stalled Tuul Expressway project. The project, contracted with a Chinese company, currently faces scrutiny and a halt in progress. The mayor stated the city holds responsibility for the project’s implementation and obligations as outlined in the contract. Proposed changes aim to minimize environmental impact and ensure efficient use of public funds. A resolution will follow the completion of an investigation by law enforcement agencies. To date, 500 billion Mongolian Tugrik from the city budget has been allocated to the project’s contractor, HaoYuan Group LLC of Hong Kong. The city budgeted 789 billion Tugrik for road construction this year, following 538.6 billion Tugrik allocated last year.
