Ulaanbaatar city is currently undergoing a significant expansion of its educational infrastructure with the construction of 136 new buildings. This includes 67 schools, 53 kindergartens, and 16 combined school-kindergarten complexes. Funding for these projects comes from a variety of sources: the state budget (40 buildings), the city budget (60 buildings), district budgets (14 buildings), the Asian Development Bank (22 buildings), and other sources (3 buildings). The city has allocated 11.9 billion Mongolian Tugrik (₮) from its 2024 budget to increase access to schooling and kindergarten places, a dedicated fund that was absent in 2023. Three additional sports halls are also under construction. The initiative aims to address growing demand and improve educational opportunities for residents.
