Mongolia’s capital city council held a general oversight hearing regarding the 2024-2026 budget and investment projects. The hearing revealed that 43 out of 45 Ulaanbaatar City Council (NITKH) members also serve on the boards of directors of state-owned and affiliated entities, holding a total of 104 positions, with 65 concentrated among only 19 members. Following the hearing, council member B. Anu-Ujin proposed a follow-up hearing due to the dissemination of potentially inaccurate information during the initial proceedings. Anu-Ujin argued that insufficient information flow contributed to the spread of misinformation regarding the city’s budget and related organizations. She formally proposed a new hearing specifically focused on the salaries, bonuses, and benefits of NITKH members serving on the boards of directors of city-affiliated organizations, aiming for greater transparency. Anu-Ujin also suggested discussing overlapping responsibilities among city institutions during the proposed hearing.
