Ukrainian border guards are maintaining a strict presence along a mountainous stretch of the border, near the peak of Mezipotoky at 1700 meters. This region, once part of Czechoslovakia’s easternmost border with Podkarpatská Rus, remains a challenging area for security. Despite the approaching summer, remnants of snow still linger at higher elevations. The area is known for smuggling activity, and guards are currently focused on apprehending Ukrainian deserters attempting to cross into Romania. The terrain presents difficulties for both patrols and those attempting to evade them. The border region remains heavily monitored due to ongoing security concerns.
