Ukraine is now deploying its glide-bomb carrying aircraft in pairs, escorted for protection during missions. These escort missions are currently necessary due to challenges from Russian pilots attempting to intercept the glide-bomb jets. The anticipated arrival of Swedish-made Gripen fighter jets will significantly enhance Ukraine’s capabilities. These Gripens will be equipped with Meteor missiles, boasting a range of 200 kilometers. This extended range is expected to provide a substantial advantage over Russian aircraft, making interceptions more difficult. The Meteor missiles will effectively extend the protective escort range for the glide-bomb aircraft, altering the current dynamic in the air.
