Ukraine has shifted its focus in the conflict with Russia, targeting data centers belonging to tech giant Yandex, widely known as the “Google of Russia.” Recent drone strikes have impacted locations in Rjazan, Kaluga, and Vladimir, located 175 kilometers east of Moscow, causing widespread disruption to internet services and online applications throughout Russia and neighboring countries like Kazakhstan, Belarus, and Armenia. Russian citizens are experiencing issues with essential services including taxi apps, food delivery, banking, and route planning. Yandex drivers and customers report system failures and inability to connect, while some struggle to access online shopping platforms. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy claims these attacks are also reducing the activity of pro-Russian “bot” accounts used to influence public opinion internationally, suggesting a broader impact beyond just technical outages. The attacks signify a new phase of the war, extending beyond traditional energy infrastructure to target Russia’s digital infrastructure.
