Ukraine has formally resubmitted its application for full membership to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), following a meeting between President Zelensky and OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann. The country has been working with the OECD, a group of 38 advanced economies including the Netherlands, on internal reforms for several years and now seeks to move beyond its current candidate status. This move aligns with Ukraine’s broader efforts to strengthen ties with Western institutions. The application comes as Ukraine continues to defend itself against Russia’s full-scale invasion launched in 2022. Kyiv views deeper integration with European and international bodies as crucial for its long-term security and that of the continent. Zelensky recently reiterated Ukraine’s desire for swift accession to the European Union as well.
