A Ukrainian commander, Andriy Chornovol, has described casualty evacuation as largely chaotic and unprepared within most Ukrainian units. He stated that current evacuation procedures are essentially a “force majeure” situation, lacking established protocols. The current reliance on ad-hoc methods is hindering effective response times, and the use of robotic solutions is proving too slow to address the immediate need. Chornovol is advocating for the creation of specialized evacuation teams equipped with light-armored vehicles. He emphasizes that dedicated, well-equipped teams are critical for improving survival rates and providing timely medical attention to wounded soldiers. Improving evacuation procedures is therefore a high priority for bolstering Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
