The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Andy Burnham, has announced a new initiative to combat the issue of passengers playing loud music or videos on public transportation without headphones. Expanding on his previous pledge to create “breathing space” for passengers, Burnham revealed a campaign starting Monday targeting disruptive behavior. Local transport authorities will be granted the power to issue fines of up to 100 pounds sterling to offenders. This action aligns Burnham with other political figures advocating for measures against public disturbances. Reportedly, around 60% of voters support this initiative. Burnham stated the campaign aims to remind passengers to use headphones and empower local authorities to tackle issues like loud music, vaping, and littering on buses, ultimately improving the travel experience for everyone. Guidance will be issued to local transport authorities on utilizing new powers granted by the “Bus Service Act” to enforce rules within their services.
