Uganda consistently produces a food surplus, exporting maize, beans, and rice to neighboring countries struggling with food security. Despite this agricultural strength, Ugandan farmers are not adequately benefiting from their contributions to regional markets. The nation’s capacity to feed others highlights a positive aspect of its agri-food sector, but a crucial link is missing: fair compensation for producers. The current system fails to translate national surplus into prosperity for the farmers who create it. Addressing this disparity is essential for sustainable agricultural development and ensuring that the benefits of Uganda’s bounty are widely shared. Ultimately, farmer prosperity is directly linked to broader African prosperity.
