The Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNATU) has expressed concern regarding Minister for Local Government, Balaam Barugahara’s, approach to inspecting government schools in Kampala, Uganda. UNATU officials criticize Barugahara for publicly arresting and questioning headteachers and education officials during these inspections. While the union supports the government’s anti-corruption efforts, they believe the Minister’s methods are inappropriate and lack proper procedure. UNATU General Secretary Filbert Baguma has voiced these objections, highlighting the need for a more considered approach to school oversight. The union's concerns center on the public humiliation of educators and the potential disruption to the educational process. They seek a balance between accountability and respectful professional conduct during school evaluations in Uganda. The matter was raised following inspections carried out in Kampala.
