A new sunflower processing plant in Uganda’s Agago District is prompting calls for increased production from local farmers. The multi-million-shilling facility, located in Lapono Sub-county, aims to add value to sunflower crops in the region. Farmers in Agago, Kitgum, and Abim districts are being encouraged to expand their sunflower farming to meet the plant’s supply needs. The initiative is spearheaded by the Karenga, Kaabong, Abim, Kotido, Kitgum, and Agago-(KKAKKA) cooperative. Officials anticipate the plant will significantly benefit the local economy by reducing reliance on raw crop sales. This development represents a key step towards bolstering agricultural processing capabilities within the area and improving farmer incomes. The plant’s installation signals a growing investment in agricultural infrastructure in northern Uganda.
