Ugandan police have arrested 552 individuals nationwide in connection with the alleged theft, embezzlement, and diversion of funds from the Parish Development Model (PDM). The two-month crackdown has led to 429 of those arrested being brought before the courts. Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke indicated that the operation is expected to expand to additional areas across the country. Authorities have not yet disclosed the total amount of PDM funds involved in the alleged crimes. The arrests signal a concerted effort to address corruption within the PDM, a government program aimed at poverty alleviation. Further investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the financial irregularities and identify additional suspects. This crackdown underscores concerns regarding the management and accountability of public funds in Uganda.
