Uganda’s National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) has developed and approved four new Irish potato varieties for distribution to farmers. Named NAROPOT 7, 8, 9, and 10, these varieties completed rigorous testing and received official release for multiplication in March 2025. This development aims to enhance potato yields and improve food security within the country. The new varieties are expected to offer benefits to farmers through increased productivity and potentially improved resistance to common potato diseases. NARO’s research signifies a continued effort to modernize Ugandan agriculture and support local farmers.
