The Judiciary of Uganda has made significant progress in reducing its case backlog, resolving 132 cases in a single week through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). This initiative aims to alleviate congestion within Uganda’s prison system. A three-day plea bargain camp held at Kigo Main Prison, running from September 28th to October 1st, led to the conviction of 26 accused persons. The effort represents a concentrated push to address the substantial number of pending cases. Officials hope this approach will expedite justice and improve conditions within correctional facilities. This development marks a positive step towards a more efficient legal system in Uganda. The program utilized plea bargains to achieve swift resolutions.
