Turkey is increasing pressure on Greece to extradite individuals it alleges have ties to the Gülen movement. This request was recently raised by Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi during a visit to Athens on October 8. Greece, however, maintains that Turkish asylum seekers within its borders do not constitute a structured organization. The Greek news website iefimerida reported on the ongoing dispute between the two countries regarding these individuals. Ankara accuses members of the Gülen movement of orchestrating a failed coup attempt in 2016. Greek officials have yet to respond to the recent escalation of the extradition request from Turkey. The situation highlights a continuing point of contention in Turkish-Greek relations.
