Turkish authorities have detained Burkay Karatepe, a former military helicopter pilot, after a decade-long search. Karatepe is accused of involvement in a 2016 operation targeting President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during the failed coup attempt. He was a captain at the time and was subsequently expelled from the military. The detention was announced by the Interior Ministry on Saturday, according to state-run Anadolu news agency. The alleged plot centred around actions taken during the tumultuous events of July 2016. This arrest signifies a continued crackdown on individuals linked to the coup attempt. Further investigation and legal proceedings are expected following Karatepe’s apprehension.
