US President Donald Trump unveiled “America.gov,” a new AI-powered website designed to be a central access point for Americans seeking federal services. Developed with the assistance of Joe Gebbia, Airbnb co-founder and chief design officer, the platform currently offers limited functionality but aims to eventually handle complex tasks like passport applications and benefits access. Trump described the initiative as a “reinvention” of government, promising increased convenience and efficiency for citizens. He also signed an executive order mandating all US government agencies to integrate their websites with America.gov. The launch coincides with a planned meeting between Trump and tech leaders to discuss the rapid advancement of AI, a sector facing growing global safety concerns. Despite these concerns, Trump has dismissed calls for a slowdown, attributing them to attempts to hinder US economic competitiveness with China, as anxieties over AI's pace are reflected in recent polling data.
