Former U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the decision not to award him the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, sharply criticizing both the Nobel committee and Norway. Speaking at a rally in Syracuse, New York, Trump labeled the decision as “shameful, disgraceful, and damaging to the reputation of Norway,” claiming he, as President representing the U.S., deserved the honor. He further suggested this was another example of countries exploiting the United States. Trump’s comments came shortly after the prize was awarded to South African judge and human rights lawyer Navi Pillay, a special rapporteur at the International Criminal Court in The Hague who led a UN commission investigating Israel’s war in the Gaza Strip. The commission accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government of committing genocide against Palestinians, sparking strong opposition from Israel. During the election campaign, Trump had dismissed Pillay as an obscure, unheard-of liberal working with the UN, stating he had never heard of her. Pillay was attending the “Nuremberg Forum” in Nuremberg, Germany, when she learned of her win, and received a standing ovation from those present.
